Recently, people are hyped by several clever marketing tactics in believing that they indeed need blue light glasses to protect their eyes from harsh lights. Despite the lack of scientific-based research or study, marketers still stand their ground in promoting blue light glasses as a way of protecting your eyes from lights.

Does Blue Light Blocking Glasses Work?

The blue light glasses trend is the marketer’s response to the issues of eye health. It also establishes the apparent link of light from technological screens and eye health issues. It also suggests that blue light glasses can help you fall asleep faster. These marketers also indicate that using blue light glasses helps alleviate headaches, poor vision, insomnia, eye damage, and many more.

These marketers suggest that the apparent damage that blue light glasses protect you from is the blue light waves that digital screens give off whenever you are looking at them. These blue light waves are said to be the reason as to why you get eye damage, you sleep poorly, or losses attentiveness and focus. These digital screens are all over us. Examples of these digital screens are your cellphone, computer, television screens. Bluelight glasses though helps in giving you a good night’s sleep.

Should You Use Blue Light Blocking Glasses?

Sadly, it has already been universally recognized, that blue light glasses do not help in preventing eye strain during the daytime, nor does it help in keeping your eye in its original 20/20 vision. The surest benefit that consumers get through from wearing blue light glasses is a good night’s sleep. It is accepted that blue light glasses indeed protect your eyes from blue light waves. Blue light waves are said to cause a deficiency of melatonin hormone. This hormone is essential as it is the one that controls your circadian rhythm. Since that it the case, blue light glasses can indeed help you get more sleep.

A journal from Harvard implies that blue light waves are naturally occurring waves in the daytime. They do not give out significant damage to the overall wellness of the eyes. In fact, during the daytime, it helps your eyes to be more attentive and focus oriented. It is a different story though in the evening. If you are glued to the digital screen of your cellphone, chances are, the blue light waves will interfere with your circadian rhythm, and you might find it hard to sleep soon. That is where blue light glasses come in, and it can be of use at night when you still want to take a peek in your digital screen but wants to sleep faster after that. There is another blue light blocking glasses called “amber” that is also making rounds on the internet and is said to significantly improve your sleeping time cycle due to its ability to block blue light at night.

Experts in India, also are confirming the reports that blue light waves interfere with the body’s production of melatonin. A study in 2009 confirmed the assumption that amber lenses can indeed block blue light waves and that this mechanism can be of great use in the evening since blue light waves can interfere with your sleep controlling hormone. They have confirmed these reports by rounding up human subjects under their experiment.

Blue Light On Eye Health

In the last decade, there is an increase in the deterioration of eye health. It is not proper to assume though that blue light wave is the reason for eye strain and eye health deterioration. A study in 2012 has been conducted to round up the possible factors that lead to macular degeneration of old people. They have tried factoring in the immersion of the eyes from blue light waves. They failed to do so since blue light waves indeed do not contribute to eye strain and macular degeneration. That eliminates the possibility that digital screens that we use every day contribute to macular degeneration. What these experts found out though is that “old age” is the most significant factor of why macular degeneration happens. As we age, our cells generally degenerate, and so the cells in our eyes. Blue light waves are not only found in digital screens, and it is everywhere. Sunlight has blue light waves too.

Eye strain is another significant rise in eye health issues. Symptoms include dry eyes, red eyes, itchy eyes, headaches, and temporary blurred vision.

As much as we want to factor in eye strain as the works of the eye’s immersion to blue light wave, the facts do not back such assumptions. It has been found out, that blue light wave immersion does not significantly contribute to eye strain and eye damage. Eye strain instead, is the disparity of the eyes in refocusing but cannot do so and then damaging it all over in terms of how long you are trying to refocus on the object.

Since it has been proven already that eye strain and overall eye damage are not linked with blue light waves, it is best to avoid them altogether if you are looking for the foolproof solution from eye damage. Instead of buying those blue light glasses, you can turn your heads instead of science-backed eye health solutions.

The Science On Blue Light Blocking Glasses

Science is not closing its door though in researching, studying, and doing more reviews about the blue light glasses and its protective capabilities. They just do not want to jump into conclusions and assumptions without researching more about it. For now, their stand is, blue light glasses have no significant contribution in protecting the eyes from eye damage. It confirmed though, that blue light glasses can indeed help you sleep faster at night.
